<P>继上张专辑《Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me》大获成功后，The Cure又在1989年推出一张大热门专辑《Disintegration》。《Disintegration》同时也是Robert Smith“悲情三部曲”的第二部，显得黑暗诱人，带着神秘和忧郁，整张专辑有着催眠曲一样的感觉，没有了乐队以前的黑暗绝望的作风，尽管专辑的基调比以前更为忧郁。The Cure的音乐罕见的变得迷人了起来。好像在无垠的大海里，仰望夜空闪亮的星光，慢慢下沉，痛苦浸透，安详地窒息。铺天盖地的深蓝色键盘，孤寂而灿烂的吉他，黑暗中幻化出彩色光芒的贝司，沉稳压抑而华丽眩目的鼓，还有Robert Smith 凄美冷艳的歌声。 </P>
<P>专辑取得了英国榜第3和美国榜第14的佳绩，并诞生了两首大热门单曲 “Lullaby” 和 “Lovesong”。还有《Prayers for Rain》和长达九分多钟《The Same Deep Water as You》等优美歌曲，《Disintegration》是The Cure在商业上的重大突破，成为The Cure在70～80年代最畅销的专辑。因为专辑出色的商业成绩，在之后的世界巡回演出中，The Cure第一次在能容纳数万观众的室外大型体育场上为乐迷表演。 </P>
