Bloodsimple-A Cruel World
风格:METAL 时间:2005年
---------- INFO--------
An album which fragmented fanbases while amalgamating genres, the stunningly progressive "From Bliss To Devastation" remains an impressive legacy even today. Ultimately serving as the swansong release from Long Island stalwarts Vision Of Disorder, the sound put forward via that outing perhaps gives the clearest indications as to where the former pairing of frontman Tim Williams and guitarist Mike Kennedy now lie with their latest project, bloodsimple. Backed by Bullygoat Records, a Warner Bros. imprint overseen by Mudvayne vocalist Chad Gray, the group also boasts a second guitarist, Nick Rowe, as well as bassist Kyle Sanders of Medication fame and former downset. drummer Chris Hamilton.
bloodsimple's approach finds explosive modern metal interspersed with slower moments drenched in emotional darkness as the group build fiery storms out of nowhere before tempering with dingy, experimental passages. Vocals are bellowed out with palpable fury atop crushing, weighty riffs as songs are built up with staggeringly heavy characteristics. Williams bares his teeth menacingly as he snarls his vocals with all the tenacity of a bulldog in the most aggressive sections, but also possesses a sorrow-laden, remorseful characteristic which asserts itself in the album's scattering of slower tracks. These pieces adopt a sombre persona with the molding of acoustic textures and more, but add some much needed dynamic shifts into the surrounding material with their morose disposition and relaxed tempos.
For all bloodsimple's auditory transitions however it has to be said that this outing lacks the rawness which may be hoped for given the cast at hand. Producer GGGarth Richardson has done a truly admirable job in smoothing out the sounds found here, and perhaps this approach merely mirrors the near flawless song writing at hand. But for most, his ludicrously detailed attention will seem overindulgent as the album is sheened mercilessly. Nonetheless, major releases of this calibre are desperately uncommon, and with its hardened edge and expressive overall nature, "A Cruel World" winds up nigh on essential.
