刚刚拿到美国的Power/Doom/Thrash Metal乐队Coven于1988年发行的这张《Blessed Is The Black》时，以为是一张带有佛拉门戈味道的老式死亡金属，因为光光欣赏唱片的封面，给人一种异域的厄运感觉。但将CD插入机器，随之传来很整齐的激流金属RIFF，这时才感觉到这可能又是一支以异域文化作为乐队主线的激流金属乐队。
一些极端或者传统一些Thrash Metal迷也许很难接受Coven的风格，因为在这张10首歌的唱片中，真真正正从头到尾都很猛烈的歌曲占到的比重并不大，这里更多的是一些中快速或者中速的Riff，鼓的地军鼓佩合也并不像很多Thrash Metal风格乐队那样的激烈，但这里特有的旋律和味道却并不是任何一支乐队都能够表达出来的，由此也可以看出Coven们对早期Power Metal，Doom Metal以及他们所遵循那些异域文化的深入理解。在他们的有些曲目中，你可以感受到一种十分大气的金属气质，那里的吉他Solo也完全变成了乐队表达情绪的途径，在绝对的冰冷中带着万分的激情，在外在的流畅中表达着内涵的极端，还有他们成功的将Thrash Metal中融入厄运的味道，这也许正是Coven能够成为在数万支乐队间留在歌迷记义中的原因吧。
